An SwitchResX 4.11 beta also works great. So right now the MacBoook is single cabled to the TS3, the TS3 is single cabled DisplayPort to the G9 and everything works like I want. I need the TS3 anyways because I have a shitload of geeky stuff to plug in. SwitchResX 4.11 a beta work in progress - who knows if it will be able to support the features of Intel Mac. If Display Overrides still work, then at least that feature should work - but in your screenshot, the Custom Resolutions tab is missing - so maybe not.
